The founder of ED as others have mentioned loves the F6F, which is great because I really want one too alongside that wonderful F4U that's coming. There is an A6M AI as well as an Essex class regarding your carrier question that's supposed to come with the F4U from Leatherneck, and I think they do want to make the A6M into a module too if they can find enough sources and documents to do so. The $ barrier to entry will always mean IL-2 has fuller servers, but if you become the first flight sim in 15 years to model the Pacific, and do it well, boy. But a Pacific theater would be a game-changer for the latter category I think. Which leaves the single player experience and player base, which DCS will probably never break through on the warbirds front. IL-2's damage model is still superior for now, but DCS has made huge strides in this area and is clearly moving at a faster pace than IL-2, whatever that means for the future. Since Normandy's facelift and now with the clouds, it'd be hard to argue that IL-2 looks better anywhere than DCS does. Out-of-cockpit environment (better clouds, better ground textures).ĭCS will always be quality over quantity, and in my opinion the sheer variety isn't that big of a deal for actual enjoyment - although we do need more fighters in DCS, the difference in dogfighting different variants of the same aircraft in IL-2 is so negligible so as to be nonexistent for the actual experience.Single player experience (namely career mode).r/flightsim - Flight Sim goodness across the entire spectrum of aviation.Īs an enjoyer of both, DCS will always have the edge in cockpit textures and flight models, while IL2 has historically had a few main things over DCS: r/falconbms - Only one engine? No problem. r/il2sturmovik/ DCS Not quite scratching that WW2 itch? r/Tacview/ The Official Tacview Subreddit PLEASE NOTE: All servers are running on the Open Beta build.
